As if it is not enough that they all have fabulous and lucrative careers in media, entertainment, technology, music, and art; eat from fabulously healthy options of organic produce; live in beautiful weather on a landscape spewing with beauty. San Franciscans live in constant denial of winter. Is there something wrong with the fact that in the winter months, it might be cold enough to warrant the heat or at least not leaving the front door open?! Nope.
In the mind of a San Franciscan, their idyllic world might be less so if they cannot leave their front door open to let in the 'warmth' and fresh air. I thought this was simply a characteristic of Mike's household, but lo and behold, every place around the city seemed to be in denial of the fact that it was 40 degrees outside!
This would NEVER happen in NY or Austin. In NY, we conserve by setting the heat in the low 60s rather than in the low 70's and begin this process in mid-October. Yes, winters are more severe than in SF, but we know what cold feels like.
Austin embraces weather changes by modern technology's ability to crank heat to the Mid 70's and AC to the low 60s to make certain there are at least 20 degrees different between the outdoors and indoors.
Congratulations, San Franciscans on yet again showing that you are better, saving money and reducing your outputs on your energy. In a snuggie by a gas-fire, I will be thinking of you with your front doors open.
